Robotic Applications for Delivering Smart User Empowering Applications

Funding: the project was financed under Siódmego Programu Ramowego.

The project was carried out by a consortium: Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, (Greece, coordinator), Institute National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (France), Politechnika Warszawska (Poland), Sigma Orionis SA (France), Ortelio Ltd. (Great Britain), Idryma Ormylia (Greece), Fundacion Instituto Gerontologico Matia–Ingema (Spain).

The amount of the grant awarded: The CI received EUR 236.228.00 (236.936.00 after annexation).
Implementation period: 2013-2016.
The RAPP project concerns the use of robots to assist socially excluded people, both due to physical disabilities and lack of technical competence. The task of the robot-companion is to work with its owner to enable him/her to function normally in society. Since the requirements of the robot owner can be unlimited and the hardware resources of the robot controller are limited, specific control systems with a variable structure are needed. Unlimited controller resources can be provided by allowing the robot controller to extract software from the cloud. Since the software to be acquired depends on the task that the robot is to complete, it must take over the supervision of the robot. So the specificity of the solution is not only that the structure of the software residing in the robot controller is variable, but also the transfer of system supervision functions.
