Piotr Tatjewski, since 1993 professor at the Warsaw University of Technology, 1996-2008 director of the Institute of Control and Computation Engineering (before 1994: Institute of Automatic Control) at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology. His research interests concern structures and algorithms of automatic control of technical processes. In the last decade he was interested mainly in multilayer control and advanced control algorithms, especially predictive control algorithms based on linear and nonlinear models, including fuzzy and neural net models. His research interests include also optimization algorithms, mainly measurement-based optimization under uncertainty. He published also several papers on decomposition-coordination optimization methods, suitable for distributed, large-scale processes.
Prof. Tatjewski was involved in several research and application projects concerning control and optimization of industrial processes and water distribution networks, design and implementation of model predictice control algorithms. He worked at Technische Universitaet Hanover, at City University, London and at University of Birmingham, England. He coordinated several team research projects of KBN (Polish Commiteee of Scientific Research) and MNiSW (Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education). Reviewer of European Research Council. In 1994-1997 he was coordinator and contractor of the EU TEMPUS project "Information Technology for Control and Decision Support - Curriculum Develpoment". He is author or co-author of  over 45 journal papers and book chapters, over 70 published conference papers and 5 books, including the book written together with Prof. M.A. Brdys "Iterative Algorithms for Multilayer Optimizing Control" edited by Imperial College Press/World Scientific Publ. in 2005 and the   monograph "Advanced Control of Industrial Processes" edited in 2007 by Springer-Verlag London (modified and extended version of the book originally published in Polish in 2002).
Member of Committee of Automatics and Robotics of PAN (Polish Academy of Sciences), chairmen of Section of  Automatic Control
Systems of this Committee.
Member of  PolSPAR (Polish Society of Measurement, Automatic Control and Robotics), vice-chairman of Automatic Control Committee of PolSPAR.
Member of  EUCA (European Union Control Association) Administrative Council, from 2007.
